I am hoping there is a convenient way around this, as described in my question. I will update my question to avoid preemptive suggestions. Some posts refer to recent "Edge Chromium" versions behaving the same as my Edge Beta and Preview versions not for me, but thanks anyway, it does seem like the only "work around" may be to find another browser. At the moment it's not a critical issue for me, I still use IE for YouTube and when IE is completely kaput, perhaps I'll re-think browsers across all pros and cons.
